What is in Lepicol? The main fibre source within Lepicol is psyllium husk (Plantago ovata). Psyllium husks are a great fibre supplement as it is able to normalise stool size by being water retentive and, at the same time, forms a soft gel which helps ease the stool along the lower digestive tract ready for evacuation. It has the advantage of being much gentler than some common fibre supplements (such as wheat or bran), many of which could irritate a sensitive bowel. Suitable for vegetarians. For the powder is worth remembering that Lepicol is not soluble but water retentive, absorbing many times its weight in water, so when it is mixed with water it does not dissolve but forms a ‘gel’ like substance. This soft gel helps ease the stool along the lower digestive tract and encourages the natural peristalsis (contraction of the smooth muscles to propel contents through the digestive tract). It is essential that you take Lepicol with a liquid. Therefore we recommend that you mix it with 1-2 glasses of liquid – water is fine but something with flavour like squash or juice may make it more palatable, just be mindful of sugars and artificial sweeteners often found in such drinks.
