One of the properties of the herb Tulsi is that it combats the stress-response. When our bodies are stressed, we release a hormone known as Cortisol. Cortisol is important to help protect us from external factors, this is known as the ‘The flight or fight response’. In a fight Cortisol protects us as our body prepares itself for defence by giving us a burst of energy. However, too much Cortisol released into our bodies can have detrimental effects to our health. It can make one hungrier than normal and lead to weight gain and adrenal problems, in turn leading to more stress and anxiety. Tulsi is a support for the stress mechanism within our bodies and helps to control and balance the effects.

A benefactor to Tulsi is Ashwagandha, which is a powerful herb from India which lifts the mood and spirit. Ashwagandha has been used in clinical studies for people with anxiety which often stems from stress. It showed that those who took the herb on a regular basis had lower cortisol levels, in addition the wider spectrum of issues related to stress such as social anxiety were significantly lower.

We have used the wonder herb Gotu Kola which has many properties related to relieving stress and anxiety. Gotu Kola contains natural chemicals which effect the blood and the brain. It is used to help one think more clearly and improves memory and

nerve function. Gotu Kola is also used by some to lengthen life span.
