Purple Kenyan Tea is different to your usual Kenyan tea because the leaves are reddish – purple in colour. These contain high levels of anthocyanin compounds similar to those in blueberries, purple grapes etc. that are rich in antioxidants. After brewing your tea, simply add lemon to watch your tea turn a reddish colour.
How should I make Kenyan tea?
Add 1 tbsp of loose leaves to your pot for 1 cup of tea. Pour hot boiling water into your teapot and steep for 3 – 5 minutes. Strain into your tea cup. Add lemon juice or a slice of lemon to watch your tea turn from a greenish hue to a reddish hue. I actually like to “cook” my purple Kenyan tea in a pan. I add 1 tbsp of loose leaves to a pan and add boiling water. I brew it for 10 minutes and then pour it into my cup. I then add lemon and honey to this tea.
For a cold brew: Prepare your black tea as above, leave to cool and strain into your glass pitcher. Add ice.
How much Kenyan tea should I drink per day?
I would suggest between 1 – 2 cups a day, depending on how much caffeine you can handle!
How to store this Kenyan tea?
This Kenyan tea is sent to you in an air-tight zip bag. Simply seal after use and store it in a cool, dark cupboard away from direct sunlight or heat (such as your stove) or humidity.
