Traditional & Cultural Use: Valerian root has been used in European traditions for centuries, especially in herbal decoctions, tinctures, and dried blends. In British and German herbals, it appeared frequently as a component in evening preparations and was commonly stored in dried root form for seasonal use. Preparation & Application: Used in dried root or powdered form. To prepare, steep 1 teaspoon of cut root in hot water for 5–10 minutes. Directions: Add approximately 1-2 tablespoons of herb to 1 liter of mineral water in a stainless steel pan (no non-stick). Bring the water to the boil and let to steep for 5-10 minutes depending on required taste. Repeat and reuse the herb over the next 2 days, up to another 2-4 times. Subsequent brews may get slightly stronger before weaker as all the plants compounds release.
